The series of paintings depicting the faces of bald women wrapped in a geometric and multicolored abstractionism was inspired by the experience of a dear friend during her fight against cancer.
One day, I was shown a photograph of when she had lost her hair during the treatment, and I immediately thought that she was beautiful notheless, even bald. The features of her face were adapted to that of a new form beauty, albeit stranger to herself.
I thought about the courage of women during adversity, of all those women that fight hiding their struggle, taking care of their appearance by putting on make-up, wearing swaddling or jewelery, and despite the fact that their beauty is different, they remain beautiful, altough in new form of beauty, as they are more abstract to their former appearance. Hence, the idea of painting bald women by introducing the element of abstract into the work.
